2013 Toscana IGT Giodo

The Giodo Toscana IGT 2013 is a very special wine. Discovered by our buyers on a trip to Tuscany last year, this declassified Brunello might just be the inside tip of the year.

The pedigree here is impeccable as owner Carlo Ferrini (a former Wine Enthusiast Winemaker of the Year) acts as a winemaking consultant for some of the biggest names in Tuscany, including the likes Casanova di Neri.

Giodo is his own pet project and it’s fantastic, with the Toscana IGT worth special consideration: Due to the workings of the Consorzio, Giodo is only allowed to bottle a tiny proportion of his output as Brunello di Montalcino (just 340 cases). The rest is made in the same way, from the same vineyards and by the same man then declassified from Brunello down to IGT status.

This is worth knowing as the Brunello is a wine capable of perfection, scoring a perfect 100 points from Suckling for the 2010 vintage. Ferrini is man who clearly knows how to make great wine. With the same DNA and such potential the IGT, at an extremely low price, is an absolute bargain for the quality and one of the great buys of the year.

This is the sort of wine we’re only able to find by travelling to the region and discovering on the ground and it is one we are delighted to offer.
