It is the consistent quality coming out of this estate, in combination with very reasonable pricing, that has made the Terra di Lavoro so sought-after, and the 2013 continues a this superb run of form. With 94 points this “firm and silky… fascinating” wine is another potential classic.


Terra di Lavoro is made from a tiny vineyard and is a full-bodied blend of low-yielding Aglianico and Piedirosso grapes. It typically shows deep intensity, while maintaining a balance and elegance that is the result of the exceptional attention to detail and meticulous care it receives in the winery.

A tangy and fresh Terra di Lavoro with some clove and spice character. Hot stone and ripe fruit here. This is very tight and chewy. Fresh and bright fruit. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a racy finish. The almond, earth and stone undertones are fascinating. This needs two to three years of bottle age. Try in 2018.

Fattoria Galardi is a southern Italian wine producer based in the north west of Campania. The winery is best known for making one wine: Terra di Lavoro, based on the Aglianico grape variety. Under the guidance of esteemed oenologist Riccardo Cotarella, the family owned estate has become a real sensation in the wine world and Terra di Lavoro has emerged as one of the star wines of southern Italy. Campania’s generous heat and volcanic soils produce the deeply concentrated grapes that become this wine. The blend of 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedrosso are bottled unfined and unfiltered before being aged for 12 months in new French oak. The resulting wine is structured, powerful and complex with massive ageing potential. Terra di Lavoro is also a wine that is consistently precise vintage to vintage, often scoring in the 97+ point range from Antonio Galloni and James Suckling.
