1966 Taylor's Very Old Single Harvest

This 'seductive, sensual' 1966 Taylor’s Very Old Single Harvest Port is a very exciting buy. Released at 50 years of age from their cellars and with eye-catching high scores, it is one to brighten up any cellar.

The third in a series of 50 year old limited-releases from Taylor’s, this rare Single Harvest Port dates back to 1966 and has been aging in seasoned oak casks ever since - setting it apart from bottle-aged vintage ports and making it a special addition to the cellar.

Perfectly mature but with 96 and 94 points apiece from the Wine Spectator and Wine Advocate, coupled with a lengthy drinking window, this a wonderfully elegant, complex wine that is perfect for drinking now or saving for several more decades to come.

The 1966 Single Harvest Tawny Port (i.e., a Colheita) is a traditional blend, aged in French and American oak. It comes in at 183 grams per liter of residual sugar. Surprisingly rich and fresh, this seems younger than its age. The complexity here is not quite as great as with some and the nuances of molasses and the like are controlled. On the other side of the coin, it has a rather sensual texture, finishing with a sugary burst. Underneath is the expected acidity and a bit of pop. Overall, it is rather seductive and quite delicious. Note that this will be released in January 2016, part of Taylor's old Colheita releases. Oct 2015, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2016-2045

Very elegant, with notes of tobacco and cedar to the lush butter cream, ripe pear and dried apricot flavors. Seductive tropical fruit and spice notes linger on the endless finish, revealing citrusy hints. Drink now. Feb 2016, www.winespectator.com
