The 2015 Soutard-Cadet is a new wine made by the Lefévère family, who also owns Sansonnet. Ripeness is pushed to the edge in this full-throttle Saint-Émilion. Chocolate, black fruit, menthol and licorice are all nicely delineated in the glass. The 2015 is an intense, rich wine with plenty to admire. Specifically, the tannins - always a challenge with heavily extracted wines - are very nicely balanced within the style. This is an impressive debut. Soutard-Cadet is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc done in 100% new oak. Tasted three times. Apr 2016, www.Vinous.com

The 2015 Château Soutard-Cadet is a 2.106-hectare vineyard, acquired by the Lefevre family in 2015 (owners of Moulin du Cadet and Sansonnet) and located in front of Château Soutard. A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc and matured entirely in new oak, it has a pure redcurrant and wild strawberry scented bouquet that gains momentum in the glass, but never becomes overpowering. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, well-judged acidity, tensile in the mouth with an appealing touch of graphite and sous-bois on the finish. This is a very appealing, well-crafted Saint Emilion, nuanced and full of personality. Apr 2016, www.eRobertParker.com, Drink: 2019-2040

This is a fantastic find for me with superb density and length. Very old vine Cabernet Franc. Full and silky. Incredible length. 4,000 bottle made. Two hectare vineyards. Mostly Cabernet Franc. Apr 2016, www.JamesSuckling.com

Aromatic and fragrant with a spicy and violet-scented note on the palate. Could almost be a Margaux, this style. Very youthful fruit, of course, which is fresh and bright and defined. A light, convincing and well-made wine. (RH) Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2017-2024
