Described as silky and impeccably refined, it is also just hitting its “wide drinking window of pure pleasure” marking it out as perfect for the drinker and collector alike. Sammarco is emerging as one of the most important wines of the region, underlined by Galloni’s award of a perfect 100 points to the 2010. Unsurprisingly, that vintage has entirely disappeared, but if anything the 2004 is arguably more attractive, given its affordability and current showing.|

Castello dei Rampolla is a Tuscan wine producer based in Panzano, in the Chianti Classico region. The winery is considered one of the leaders in the Chianti region and have pioneered organic and biodynamic viticulture, beginning as far back as 1994.
Both indigenous and international grape varieties are grown on the 30 hectare property, from which 3 red wines and 1 white wine are produced. A total production of 80,000 bottles are made of Chianti Classico, d’Alceo, Sammarco and the single white wine, Trebianchi.
In the vineyards, organic principles are practiced religiously and every operation is carried out according to the biodynamic calendar. Under the watchful eye of winemaker Luca di Napoli Rampolla, the wines are fermented in a variety of vessels, including amphora jars before ageing takes place in French oak barriques. Only native yeast is used and minimal sulphur is added, if at all.
The resulting wines are truly genius expressions of the terroir in Chianti Classico and have gained a great reputation amongst wine critics and enthusiasts alike. Renowned Italian wine critic, Antonio Galloni, may have said it best, “Castello dei Rampolla is one of the benchmark properties in Tuscany, and for good reason. At their finest, these are some of the most elegant, luscious wines readers will come across.”
