This is also brooding though again aggressive swirling liberates exceptionally fresh and intensely floral aromas that also feature notes of various red berries and a beautiful array of spice notes that include anise, hoisin, soy and sandalwood. There is extraordinary intensity to the mineral-driven, focused and powerful imposingly scaled flavors that are tightly wound around a core of ripe but very firm tannins before exploding in a mouth coating and palate staining finish. This is a classic Richebourg and presently very austere that will require at least 12 to 15 years to shed its considerable tannins. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2023+

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Initially, the impression on the nose of the Richebourg 2011 is one of the oak, although with encouragement it ebbs away to reveal finely tuned black cherry and strawberry fruit that is interlaced by fine tension and delineation. Upon further investigation – smoke, wet limestone and sea cave emerge and add another layer of complexity. The palate is succulent and fully ripe on the entry. There is great weight and density to this grand cru that is very well balanced with a really powerful, regal finish that just seems to expend vigor with aeration. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014
