A discreet floral element sits atop the pretty and equally fresh nose of cool and layered red and dark currant aromas. There is a bit more volume present on the mineral-inflected and tautly muscular middle weight flavors that also terminate in a firm and ever-so-mildly drying finish that is present compact and a bit clipped. This will probably mature reasonably gracefully though again I have my doubts that it will ever completely harmonize. Apr 2016, www.burghound.com

The 2014 Pommard 1er Cru les Rugiens includes one-third whole cluster fruit and 40% new oak. It has more red fruit than the 2014 Les Pezerolles with wild strawberry and Morelle cherry coming through, lending more ripeness and a touch more fruité. The palate is well balanced with a pleasing fleshiness and grip, very well focused and gaining density and structure towards the finish. The Rugiens terroir shows through beautifully here -- one of de Montille's best 2014s. Dec 2015, www.robertparker.com

Domaine de Montille is now without doubt one of the finest producers in Burgundy. This is a domaine with considerable history: Hubert de Montille inherited the domaine in the 1950s. A pioneer of domaine bottling, he is one of the grand old men of Burgundy. His son, Etienne has been in charge since 1995, having assisted his father here since the early 1980s. Etienne moved to fully organic farming in 1995, and the transition to biodynamics began in 2005; at the same time the domaine expanded into the Côte de Nuits, with some exceptional plots in Nuits St Georges and Vosne, including a very special parcel of Les Malconsorts – Cuvee Christiane - from vines just under La Tache.
