2004 Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque

Despite the brilliance of some wines, their miniscule production means only a few drinkers get the chance to experience them. This is certainly the case for the sensual and fascinating 2004 Perrier-Jouet Belle Epoque. The great House of Perrier-Jouet was established in 1811, and despite changing hands, its heritage has remained.

Their 2004 Belle Epoque is a blend of 50% Chardonnay, 46% Pinot Noir and a little Pinot Meunier from old-vines on the very best slopes within Cramant. This produces a beautifully delicate cuvee, but one with a lively acidity that is perfectly balanced by a creamy, toasty complexity due to its time spent on its lees. The 2004 Belle Epoque will provide a great source of joy for years to come.

A very charming young champagne. Are a lot of languishing sunny drink-happiness directly with vanilla-like silky softness and uncomplicated enjoyment. Vanilla Dreams control the moment even if the time comes to add depth and seriousness. Jan 15, www.champagneclub.com

This is minerally up front, with a briny note of oyster shell transitioning to richer accents of toasted brioche, glazed apricot and lemon meringue on the fine and creamy palate. Bright and aromatic, with a fresh, zesty finish. Drink now through 2024. 100 cases imported. Jan 16, www.winespectator.com

This shimmers with its flavors of apple and lime, its hint of toast and its soft finish. It's finely balanced, a great selection that is ready to drink now. Dec 12, www.winemag.com
