There is more complexity here on both the nose and the palate with a perfumed mélange of fresh and pure red currant, plum and floral scents. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension and fine delineation to the seductively textured medium-bodied flavors that are notably permeated by an almost pungent minerality on the long, balanced and delicious finish. This is worth considering. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2019+
The 2011 Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru Ile des Vergelesses comes from their 3.13 hectares of vines that average around 40 years in age. It has an expressive bouquet with abundant red cherries and raspberry preserve scents intermixed with hints of wet tobacco. The palate offers fine depth on the entry and good structure. There is a palpable sense of tension here, although a more benevolent season would have bestowed greater persistency. Drink now-2018. ||The wines from Domaine Chandon de Briailles have not been reviewed in this publication for (what appears to be) a number of years. I have encountered some decent wines recently, and this is just a small inroad to their portfolio that I hope to expand upon in subsequent reports. eRobertParker.com.June, 2014
The Aymard-Claude de Nicolay family has run Domaine Chandon de Briailles since 1834. The Count and Countess Aymard-Claude de Nicolay were in charge from 1982 and now their children, Claude and François, have taken over. The estate – which is biodynamic - is based in the Northern area of the Côte de Beaune and covers over 13 hectares across the three villages of Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses and Aloxe-Corton. Wines receive between 14 to 18 months in oak barrels.
