Gouge's 2012 Nuits St. Georges Les Pruliers is less immediate than some of the other wines in the range. Here it is the crystalline purity of the aromas and flavors that stands out most. Violets, plums, licorice, sweet spices and tar are all woven together in a wine that shows the finesse Nuits can at times achieve. The tannins are firm yet also impeccable in their silkiness. Structurally quite classic, the 2012 will reward cellaring. January 2014. Drink 2022-2037.
The 2012 Nuits St Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers was showing just a little reduction on the nose, but it reluctantly opens with lovely cranberry and pomegranate scents mingling with cold stone and even light mushroom scents. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp, taut tannin; quite elegant and harmonious on the finish that does not quite possess the animation of the Clos des Porrets at the moment. Let's see if it catches up its fellow premier crus in bottle., 2015
A brooding and pungently earthy nose mixes dark berry aromas with humus, underbrush and sauvage notes. There is very fine richness to the suave and quite round medium-bodied flavors that retain a lovely sense of vibrancy on the lingering finish. This is finer than the Porrets but less powerful. A qualitative choice. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2022+
