This was rated as the “Third Finest Whisky in the World” by the authoritative Jim Murray in his Whisky Bible 2016, named “Irish Whiskey of the year” and has also been titled “Irish Pot Still Whiskey of the Year”.
Jim Murray says that this is “ridiculously beautiful” and goes on to say that it offers “a once in a lifetime experience”. It is so good that he awarded it a massive 97 points, making it one of a handful of “superstar whiskies that give us all a reason to live”. His highest-ever score is 97.5 - although it just misses out on the joint-top spot by half a point, it is priced far below many that score far less.
Believed to be the world’s first ever whiskey to be finished in Irish oak, this is composed of a select combination of 15 to 22 year old Bourbon aged whiskies, married together and finished in virgin Irish hogsheads before bottling.

Nose: a plethora of bourbon-style liquorice and honey – though, here, closer to heather honey. Polished oak floors, melt-on-the-nose grain… and so it goes on… and on… and on… An odd hybrid of Kentucky and Irish… but a thoroughbred, of course… Taste: that is probably one of the great deliveries of the year. Absolutely abounds in pot still character, both being hard as nails and soft as a virgin’s kiss. But the way it interacts with the ulmo honey/red liquorice/heather-honey-vanilla/embracing grain is something of a once in a lifetime experience. And, what’s more, barely a hint of spice throughout… Flavour: just long, gorgeously silky and soft and a delicious furtherance of the spellbinding flavour compounds of before… Balance: for heaven’s sake. This is just too ridiculously beautiful… and so unmistakably Irish for all the virgin oak. Truly world class.
