This is very firmly reduced at present and it seems sufficiently firm that I would not be inclined to open a bottle before allowing at least a few years of bottle age. On the plus side there is excellent mid-palate concentration to the intensely mineral-driven flavors that possess cuts-like-a-knife delineation, all wrapped in an overtly saline and tension-filled finale that is dry to the point of mild austerity. This beauty is clearly built to age and note well that it is going to need it. Jun 2016, www.burghound.com, Drink: 2022+

The 2014 Meursault 1er Cru Perrières, raised in a judicious 15% new French oak, has a powerful, punchy bouquet that puts the Genevrières 2014 in the shade. This races out of the blocks with dried pineapple, citrus and stony notes, quite extravagant and whilst not delivering the same killer level of mineralité as others, it does put a smile on your face. The palate is well balanced with a keen line of acidity, just a hint of lemon zest flanked by dried apricot and grilled walnut notes. It gambols along to what feels like quite an intense finish. This is excellent...brash but excellent. Jan 2016, www.robertparker.com, Drink: 2018-2032

Bright, light yellow. Deeply pitched nose offers fresh apricot, iodiney minerality and a complicating leesy nuance. A broad, fat, mineral bath on the palate, with its ripe, sweet peach flavor nicely countered by firm acidity. Less harmonious and smooth than the Genevrières today, this wine needs time to meld its sweet fruit elements and acidity. But the long, rising finish augurs well for longevity. 91+ Sep 2016, www.vinous.com, Drink: 2020-2027

Bouchard Pere et Fils has a 0.75 ha plot located in the southern end of Meausault Perrieres. The 2014 Meursault Perrieres is currently slightly more backward than the Genevrieres … and the fruit is deeper and darker offering a more compact minerality. On the palate weighty and more serious with a intense and deep fruit .. it’s long, pure and vibrant. A very fine Perrieres indeed. Mar 2016, www.winehog.rog, Drink: 2026+

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s most important houses, and the largest vineyard holder in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vineyards. It’s holdings include 12 hectares of grand cru vineyards, with significant plots in Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, Le Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. It holds more than 70 hectares of premier cru vineyards, most of which are in the Côte de Beaune, including one of Beaune’s most famous wines: Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus.

The company is owned by the Henriot group, which took over in 1995. Run from their impressive headquarters in Beaune, Bouchard has been making better and better wines in the past twenty years, and can be considered a benchmark producer of both red and white Burgundy.

Bouchard’s holdings in Chevalier-Montrachet are their jewel, and they hold Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte in its entirety. This vineyard sits just above Bouchard’s holding of Le Montrachet, and is one of the finest examples of Chardonnay. The house also has grand cru holdings in Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Bonne Mares in the Côte de Nuits.
