There is still some post-bottling sulfur present and not surprisingly the nose is markedly reduced at present so be sure to decanting this if you're going to try a bottle on release. The fleshy but beautifully well-delineated middle weight flavors possess a fine sense of energy as well as a fine bead of minerality that runs the length of the wine and is particularly evident on the balanced, graceful and moderately dry finish. This stylish effort should reward 6 to 8 years of cellar time yet be approachable young too. Tasted: Jun 15, 2014. Drink: 2019+

The 2012 Meursault 1er Cru Genevrieres comes from 2.4 hectares of vine split of two parcels. It has a very attractive bouquet with light walnut, honeysuckle and smoke aromas that are well-defined. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, with a fine line of acidity, touches of orange zest and marmalade leading to a very composed, fennel-tinged finish. This is lovely. Drink now-2025. ||Although I tasted the wines of this Burgundy grand maison in London, I spent a morning with winemaker Philippe Prost to go through at least part of their large portfolio to get an insight into Bouchard Pere & Fils. Ever since Michel Bouchard established the house in 1731, it has been a permanent fixture in Burgundy, surviving seizure by the State after the Revolution, phylloxera, two World Wars and periods when the world simply was uninterested in Burgundy. Today they own 130 hectares of vines, more than any Bordeaux chateau, including 12 grand crus and 74 premier crus. Wine Advocate.February, 2014

Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s most important houses, and the largest vineyard holder in the Côte d’Or with 130 hectares of vineyards. It’s holdings include 12 hectares of grand cru vineyards, with significant plots in Corton and Corton-Charlemagne, Le Montrachet and Chevalier-Montrachet. It holds more than 70 hectares of premier cru vineyards, most of which are in the Côte de Beaune, including one of Beaune’s most famous wines: Beaune Grèves Vigne de l’Enfant Jésus.

The company is owned by the Henriot group, which took over in 1995. Run from their impressive headquarters in Beaune, Bouchard has been making better and better wines in the past twenty years, and can be considered a benchmark producer of both red and white Burgundy.

Bouchard’s holdings in Chevalier-Montrachet are their jewel, and they hold Chevalier-Montrachet La Cabotte in its entirety. This vineyard sits just above Bouchard’s holding of Le Montrachet, and is one of the finest examples of Chardonnay. The house also has grand cru holdings in Chambertin, Clos de Vougeot, Echézeaux and Bonne Mares in the Côte de Nuits.
