Mid crimson. Very sweet and voluptuous start and then just the merest hint of sandpaper and great, supple, ripe tannins. The merest hint of greenness on the finish but overall pretty lovely. Fresh and ‘feminine’ though there is no shortage of tannin! What a good Maucaillou.
Tasted at the Cru Bourgeois primeur tasting. This has good intensity on the nose with blackberry, oyster shell and dark plum, showing nice poise and focus. The palate is medium-bodied, slightly chewy on the entry, good weight with a firm masculine, cedar-infused finish. Fine. Neal Martin,
Nicely fragrant Cabernet fruit, quite lifted and elegant but could have more depth. Drink 2014-18. Steven Spurrier,
A Burgundian style of wine with notes of sweet and sour cherries, pomegranates, spice box and damp earth, this medium-bodied, pleasant wine should be drunk over the next 5-6 years. Wine Advocate.February, 2013
A graceful medium weight wine with nice flavours but slightly weak mid palate and length. It is a well made Maucaillou made for fairly early drinking.
