Dark cherries, inky blue/purplish, smoke, licorice and tobacco race across the palate in the 2014 Marquis d'Alesme - Becker. Round and supple at the outset, with considerable new oak influence, the 2014 finds a bit more finesse on the finish, where veins of cool, refreshing minerality balance the wine's virility and overall intensity. Layers of fruit continue to flesh out in a distinctly powerful, huge Margaux loaded with personality. The 2014 saw about 5 days of cold soak then 26-28 days on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentations that were done 60% in oak and 40% in steel. The blend is 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot.

The Château Marquis d'Alesme Becker 2014 is a blend of 57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 5% Petit Verdot, cropped at 30 hectoliters per hectare and matured in 50% new oak. It has a refined bouquet with blackberry, boysenberry and violet scents, fine precision here, understated at first but growing in intensity. The palate is medium-bodied with a saline, marine influenced entry. The tannins feel a little hard on the mid-palate, lending the finish a foursquare, slightly dusty mouthfeel. There is good concentration here but it needs to muster more precision on the finish. Maybe that will come during the élevage? If it does then it will merit a higher score. eRobertParker.com.April, 2015
