1999 Les Grandes Murailles

Average critic rating : 87.5 points

Although performing well, particularly for a property that was forced to harvest early because of hail damage, the 1999 Grandes Murailles does not possess the flavor dimension exhibited prior to bottling. It is a blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc (Michel Rolland is the consulting winemaker). The 1999 is a medium-bodied, richly fruity effort without the depth, length, and overall complexity of the 1998 or 2000. Drink it over the next 5-6 years as it will probably not improve. Wine Advocate.April, 2002

Loads of toasted oak, berry and tobacco character. Full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, juicy aftertaste. Delicious. Best after 2003. 580 cases made. James Suckling,Wine Spectator 2002.
