Average Score 93.5

The Montrachet, has an unbelievably refined and penetrating nose of candied nuts, flowers, and liquid minerals. This extraordinarily elegant offering has awesome balance, richness, and a profound depth to its tightly wound personality. Vibrant minerals, crisp pears, and stones are intermingled with flavors reminiscent of pineapple Life Savers in this medium-to-full-bodied and velvety beauty. It is spiritual, superbly focused, and magnificently precise. The vast majority of 1997 white Burgundies will have long passed into oblivion when this great wine reaches its peak of maturity Anticipated maturity: 2005-2012+. Bravo! Wine Advocate.February, 1999
Relatively discreet and reserved for a '97 though the nose has opened considerably since the last time I tasted it. The flavors offer good density and power though not necessarily much complexity at this point but are gorgeously textured and completely coat the palate. In sum, this is classically styled and quite impressive in the context of the vintage and it will need every bit of 10 years to really strut its stuff. Allen Meadows, Burghound. Apr01,2003
