The 2015 Le Carré is dark, powerful and intense, but it also comes across as heavy and lacking in freshness. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, smoke, new oak and leather fill out the wine's plush, ample frame. This is an especially ripe, broad Saint-Émilion built on texture and body. Apr 2016, www.Vinous.com

The 2015 Le Carre, which was once part of Château Curé-Bon, is a blend of 85% Merlot and 15% Cabernet Franc that matured in 80% new French oak (the other part of Curé-Bon now forms Croix Canon). The fruit was picked on October 2 and 13 respectively. It offers dark plum and raspberry preserve scents, the oak nicely integrated. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chewy tannin at the moment. A slightly more muscular Le Carré, but with plenty of black fruit towards the sappy finish. This will meld together throughout its élevage and should age well over 8-15 years. Apr 2016, www.eRobertParker.com, Drink: 2019-2035

A minerally and fresh red with walnut, chalk and dark berry character. Full and silky. Build on the palate. Powerful. Mar 2016, www.JamesSuckling.com

A fleshy style, with a slightly extracted feel to the plum skin, raspberry confiture and blackberry reduction notes, followed by ganache-accented toast through the finish. Solid, but clearly style-driven. Mar 2016, James Molesworth, www.WineSpectator.com

From a parcel near Clos Fourtet. Spicy and fragrant with fine texture and tannins, mid-palate sweetness then length on the finish. Apr 2016, James Lawther MW, www.Decanter.com, Drink: 2021-2028

Made as a stand alone wine since 2005 (it used to go into Château Laforge) this is ripe, but not over-ripe. It handles its 80% new oak with ease, showing notes of plum, dark cherry and cinnamon and firm, but well rounded tannins. The limestone freshness kicks in on the finish.
