There was clearly an attempt on the part of the proprietors to make a denser, richer wine in 1989. But in doing so, they appeared to have extracted an unpleasant level of tannin. There is plenty of new oak, but the overall impression is one of toughness, a lack of charm, and excessively astringent tannin levels. Anticipated maturity: 1995-2000. Wine Advocate.February, 1993

Plenty of berry, chocolate and tobacco character. Full-bodied, with firm tannins and a fresh, fruity finish. A bit one-dimensional but very good nonetheless.--1989 Bordeaux horizontal. Best after 2004. James Suckling,Wine Spectator 1999
