A plump, juicy wine, the 2015 Lagrange is a terrific example of the year. Although not hugely complex, the 2015 offers tons of near to medium-term appeal in a gracious, mid-weight style that is sure to find many admirers. The Lagrange is a decidedly feminine, understated Pomerol. Sweet red cherry, pomegranate and floral notes wrap around the inviting finish. The 2015 is 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. The 2015 Lagrange, the Pomerol version not Saint Julien, is a blend of 96% Merlot and 4% Cabernet Franc. It has a simple bouquet, perhaps a little monotone compared to its peers, but clean and fresh. The palate is medium-bodied with light, grainy tannin. It is nicely balanced, not a deep Pomerol or complex, although the finish slips down the throat easily. Enjoy this uncomplicated Pomerol over the next 6-8 years. Apr 2016, www.eRobertParker.com, Drink: 2018-2026

A tight and silky red with lovely blackberry and walnut shell character. Full body, firm and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish. Gorgeous balance. Mostly Merlot with a touch of Cabernet Franc. Mar 2016, www.JamesSuckling.com

Very fresh, with cherry, raspberry and plum coulis flavors streaking along, laced with sandalwood and balsam notes on the finish. The underlying acidity is persistent, giving this some sneaky energy. Mar 2016, James Molesworth, www.WineSpectator.com

A Jean-Pierre Moueix wine. 9 ha (22 acres) of gravel and clay. 96% Merlot, 4% Cabernet Franc. Heady and toasty on the nose - pretty lip-smacking. Very savoury and refreshing. Well balanced, with drive. Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2023-2034

Mainly Merlot from a second-terrace vineyard. Fruit driven nose then supple fruit on the palate. Structured but slightly rustic tannins and a hint of alcohol. Apr 2016, James Lawther MW, www.Decanter.com, Drink: 2020-2027

There’s only 4% Cabernet Franc in the blend here, but it seems like much more, such is its grassy, aromatic precision. This is a very pure, elegant wine with fine-boned tannins and attractive plum and blackberry fruit. Apr 2016, www.timatkin.com, Drink: 2020-2025
