Further picks of the fantastic 2012 Californian vintage come from a flagship estate, the “world-class” (RP), Vérité. In keeping with the quality of the year and Vérité’s winemaking, their three cuvees, La Muse, Le Désir and La Joie, were all hugely scored by Parker from barrel and so we are delighted to have an allocation to offer. Each is designed to reflect a great appellation of Bordeaux: La Muse represents Pomerol, La Joie tributes Medoc and Le Désir pays homage to St.-Emilion. All three are made from hand-selected fruit and painstakingly vinified with consistently extraordinary results, showing a depth and complexity worthy of first-class Bordeaux. The impeccable nature of every element of production - from a no-expense spared attitude to phenomenal raw materials - allow Vérité’s trio to attain perfection nearly every year, with the three cuvees achieving flawless 100 point scores eight times in the Wine Advocate.

The 2012 La Joie, which is a blend of 76% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, blew me away. A profound effort, with 55% of it coming from Hillsides in Alexander Valley, 31% from Knights Valley and the balance from Chalk Hill, the wine shows great minerality, oodles of crme de cassis fruit, incense, licorice, crushed rock, and a provocative full-throttle mouthfeel. A wine of great intensity, purity and equilibrium, this definitely begs for 4-7 years of bottle aging and should drink well for at least 30+ years. (Oct 2015) www.erobertparker.com Drink 2020-2050

Verite is the late Jess Jackson's iconic North Coast Californian label. Regularly rated between 98 and 100 points by Robert Parker, the three wines in the range - the Pauillac-esque La Joie, the Pomerol-styled La Muse and the St Emilion-like Le Desir - are blended from Jackson's best parcels in Sonoma and are made by Bordeaux native Pierre Seillan. Jess first met Pierre in 1995 and asked him if he could Make something like Petrus over here" Pierre replied "Maybe, but why not make something better?".
