2013 La Gaffeliere

Average critic rating : 88.5 points

Yields were not too bad, with 31 hectoliters per hectare the average, and the alcohol cane in at 12.5%. As far as production, this is only one-third of what they produced in 2012. The final blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. The wine shows soft berry fruit, roasted Provencal herbs, tobacco leaf, and a hint of soil undertones in a medium-bodied, easygoing fruit-forward, attractive and charming style. Drink over the next 7-8 years. Wine Advocate.August, 2014

A dynastic winery owned by Comte Leo de Malet Roquefort’s family since the 1400s, La Gaffelière is one of France’s most historical Châteaux. With a total of 22 hectares under vine, the estate lies adjacent to Ausone, Château Pavie, Château Belair and Château Magdelaine, producing highly finessed St Emilion. The 2006, 2009 and 2010 vintages were particularly successful.
