The deep ruby/purple-colored, velvety-textured, full-bodied, accessible 1999 Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette offers an open-knit nose of pepper, cassis, minerals, and cedar. The wine possesses sweet tannin, medium to full body, and a supple-textured yet delineated style. It will be its finest between 2004-2016. This is a good commercial example. The significant difference in quality between the outstanding 1999 northern Rhone vintage and the above average yet essentially correct 2000 is dramatically evidenced in Delas's wines. The 2000 red offerings reveal charming ripeness, but also the vintage's softness, lightness, and lack of depth. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 140.
In stark contrast to the evolved, tired '00, the still inky ruby-colored 1999 Hermitage Marquise de la Tourette was still lively and fresh, with classic dark fruits, tobacco leaf, cured meats and chocolate aromas and flavors giving way to a full-bodied, fleshy, textured Hermitage that has sweet tannin and nicely integrated acidity. Aged in equal parts new and once-used barrels, drink it anytime over the coming decade. eRobertParker.com.September, 2015
