1996 Henriot Cuvee des Enchanteleurs



Henriot’s core strength has always been the high-class vineyards that they own in the Côte des Blancs, allowing them to produce wines that are both elegant and of excellent quality. The Cuvee des Enchanteleurs is their flagship wine, made solely from the fruit of Grand Cru vineyards and only made in the very best years when all the conditions are perfectly suited for creating their top wine.

 

The Henriot family were established as a Champagne house in 1808. Henriot’s Champagnes see full malolactic fermentation, yet retain an element of cut and verve that gives the best wines impeccable balance. To enhance the remarkable character of the 1996 vintage, Henriot chose to add Pinot Noir's power to the elegance of Chardonnay. The result is a blend that is quintessentially Henriot in style. Richard Juhlin describes it as ‘a wine from Champagne’s greatest terroirs.’

Smoke, cantaloupe, pear, flowers, mint, sweet baking spices and apricots are some of the notes that emerge from this layered, sublime Champagne. The finish is long and polished. The 1996 Enchanteleurs is drinking beautifully today, but also appears to have the stuffing to age gracefully for at least another decade. Disgorged: June, 2008.
