The 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Village was raised in new and one-year-old oak in equal measure. It has a pure but tightly wound bouquet that is very subtle, almost timid at first, but opens with hints of dried flowers in the background. The palate is very smooth and harmonious on the entry. There is impressive weight here for a Village Cru. It has no intention of being a complex Gevrey, but it is focused and already feels supple in the mouth. Drink 2014-2019+ ||Claude Dugat guided me through his 2011s on a blissful July morning, the flowers in such bloom that at one point he questioned whether I was wearing any scent. For the record, I have never worn aftershave in my life. Claude’s wines are deftly made, occasionally lifted by the new oak to the extent where I feel less would be more, but still highly enjoyable., 2013
This is quite fresh, pure and elegant with the airy and cool aromas of red currant, spice, underbrush and Gevrey style earth. There is a touch of the sauvage to the quite supple and round medium-bodied flavors that exhibit attractive hints of minerality on the delicious, vibrant, mouth coating and lingering finish. Good stuff for a villages level wine and I especially like the fine grained tannins. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2018+
