2010 Fonplegade

We are delighted to offer a stunning St Emilion from one of Bordeaux’s best ever vintages: the 94+ point 2010 Fonplegade. Described by Robert Parker as "an absolutely brilliant wine", this is a Bordeaux red you won’t want to miss.

2010 was clearly very successful for Fonplegade. Robert Parker sees this “formidably endowed, massive wine” as potentially the best wine the Chateau has ever made and highlights a brilliant level of quality with the potential to mature and perhaps improve for up to another three decades.

This is quite remarkable for a wine available at a very reasonable price. The 2010 Fonplegade offers the sort of value rarely seen in St Emilions of this class, let alone from such an iconic vintage and is a strong buy as a result.

Concentrated black fruits intermixed with spring flowers, some high class, subtle toasty oak, graphite and a touch of blackberry and cassis all jump from the glass of this dense, full-bodied, formidably endowed, massive wine. It needs a good 5-7 years of cellaring. This could turn out to be one of the longest-lived wines ever made at Fonplegade, lasting 25-30 or more years.||This is an absolutely brilliant wine, and probably the best to date from this American-owned Chateau, which has been completely renovated and is now enjoying a resurrection/renaissance in quality. Wine Advocate.February, 2013

Fonplegade From 91% Merlot 5 % Cabernet Franc, 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in 80% new oak, this is the first vintage for the new managing director Jean-Christophe Meyrou, who previously occupied the same position at Le Gay and La Violette in Pomerol. Malolactic finished in late March, the wine was just opening up when tasted. Licorice, spice, jammy berries and vanilla scents opened to a wine with medium/full body, round textures and a ripe licorice, spice and jammy berry finish. winecellarinsider.com

This is a very ripe style with a thick texture. The flavours border on being over-ripe but manages to stay on the right side of the fence. There is sufficient depth and intensity with firm tannins that suggest it age well and open up more with time in bottle. asianpalate.com
