2010 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc

The 2010 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a white Bordeaux flirting with perfection. With 99-100 points from James Suckling and drawing comparisons with top Grand Cru Burgundy, this is an absolute steal.

2010 was an iconic Bordeaux vintage that produced stunning wines across the board, with this among the very best. Full-bodied and powerful, it is an outstanding wine that Suckling called “a marvel” and compared to Burgundy Grand Cru Montrachet - stunning praise that underlines just how great the Chevalier Blanc really is.

What’s more, with a staggering score of 99-100 points, this wine punches far, far above its price bracket while ranking alongside some of Bordeaux’s greatest white wines such as the 99 point 2010 Haut Brion Blanc, which currently sells for close to £500 a bottle in bond - if you can find some.

With just 2000 cases made per year, the Domaine de Chevalier is a scarce wine that is likely to become increasingly hard to find - especially when it’s this good. One to secure before it disappears.

A backward style of wine with notes of honeyed pears, subtle citrus, candle wax, orange zest and lemon butter, this medium to full-bodied, rich wine has terrific acidity and a long, long finish. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2050. Wine Advocate.February, 2013

This is a remarkable wine with a density of fruit that reminds me of a Montrachet from a great vintage. it’s full bodied, dense and rich -- almost oily -- but then it turns bright and fresh with a powerful backbone of acidity. A marvel. jamessuckling.com

Very pure, with a stony frame to the straw, verbena and gooseberry notes. Superfresh, but not overly tangy, with a long, suave finish. James Molesworth, winespectator.com

Much more restrained and subtle than the dry white from its new sister property Lespault-Martillac. Tense and long lived with great electricity. Still very astringent and taut with some exotic aromas on the nose and then a certain green grassiness on the palate. Still extremely youthful. May well last longer than I suggest. Tasted both open and blind. jancisrobinson.com

Quite discreet but supremely elegant white florality and fruit, great persistence and harmony, a beautiful wine, hard to imagine a better Domaine de Chevalier white. Drink 2014-25. Steven Spurrier, decanter.com

Domaine de Chevalier Blanc An explosion of lemon, guava, grapefruit, lime and fresh picked flowers poured over wet rocks make up the perfume. Thick, rich, incredibly concentrated and intense, this dense wine has the perfect amount of acidity to feel bright and fresh. This was the only wine from the Pessac Leognan tasting that was too good to spit. I put the wine where it belonged. winecellarinsider.com

The Domaine de Chevalier Blanc is a brilliant white wine that is neither too heavy nor too light. Its gooseberries, star fruit, and lemongrass notes lead into a palate of fresh acidity and wonderful intensity of fruit. This is very long in the finish and like all good vintages of Domaine de Chevalier Blanc, this one will keep for decades in the cellar. asianpalate.com

Descreet, restrained and wonderfully balanced. Every bit as good as the red.
