2004 Dom Ruinart

With an excellent 96 points from Parker to go alongside its already hugely impressive 97 from Galloni, the 2004 Dom Ruinart is a superb Champagne.

The 2004 is a fantastic Champagne from one of the most historic houses in the region. Tasted by Parker earlier this year for the more informal Hedonist’s Gazette, he declared it, “one of my favourite champagnes at the moment.” Huge praise given how much he gets the chance to sample.

His thoughts echo those of fellow critic Antonio Galloni who sees it as “viscerally thrilling” and gives it one of the highest scores of this excellent champagne vintage cementing its place as one of the finest of prestige cuvee champagnes.

The Dom Ruinart is a brilliant expression of grand cru Chardonnay and with very low dosage levels, the resulting wine has impeccable structure, minerality, poise and elegance.

The 2004 Dom Ruinart is just as brilliant and viscerally thrilling as it has always been. If anything, the 2004 has shut down considerably over the last six months. Tightly coiled and exceptionally beautiful, the 2004 boasts fabulous intensity, class and pedigree. The flavors are vibrant, chiseled and crystalline in their precision. Time in bottle is doing wonders for the 2004. This is a tremendous showing. Disgorged June 2013. Nov 2014, Vinous.com, Drink: 2015-2034

Very impressive aromatic depth here, layered and complex with a nicely captured toasty, nutty edge plus lemon citrus, peach and sweet-smelling florals. The palate has restraint and purity; really smartly focused power here with ripe acidity, plenty of attractive middle-palate flesh and a long, sherbet-like finish. Dosage is the lowest ever for Dom Ruinart at just 5.5g per liter. Jul 2015, JamesSuckling.com
