Tasted single blind against its peers. Whereas last year the de Fargues 2008 was immediately forthcoming, a few months later this example demands much more coaxing from the glass. Eventually, it reveals scents of dried pineapple, limestone and a touch of cooking apple with some VA notes lending it a bit of a “kick.” The palate is medium-bodied with a mellifluous texture. It is very well-balanced with a tangible sense of tension from start to finish, attractive notes of dried honey and quince interlacing the long structured finish. This constitutes a serious Sauternes for the serious Sauternes-lover. Tasted January 2012. Wine Advocate.February, 2012

The 2008 de Fargues has a glorious, explosive Sauternes nose that is pure and vivacious – dried honey, apricot and a touch of grapefruit, nurturing more intensity with aeration. The palate is well-balanced with crisp acidity, vibrant and tense with citrus peel, apricot and quince towards the tightly-wound finish. This is a class act! Drink now-2040. Neal Martin, Wine Advocate May 2011 What a compelling wine Chateau de Fargues has become. The 2008 has 130 g/l residual sugar and 13.7 degree alcohol. Tasted both as a blend and from lots in barrel, it has an intense, rich honeyed nose with superb definition, an almost TBA-like bouquet that is captivating. The palate is superb: vibrant, honeyed, expressive, taut and beautifully defined, lingering honeyed notes laced with apricot and Seville orange towards the finish. This is one of the great 2008 Sauternes. [94-96 Points] Neal Martin, Wine Advocate April 2009

A very classy wine, with spice, honey and lemon peel character. Dense and powerful, with honey, white pepper and citrus fruit. Layered and rich for the vintage. Score range: 90-93. James Suckling,Wine Spectator 2009.
