2013 Coteaux du Languedoc La Peira La Peira en Damaisela

I am delighted to offer a superb and incredibly rare 95-97 point wine from what Jeb Dunnuck considers to be “easily one of the top estates in all of France”; the 2013 La Peira from La Peira en Damaisela.


This is a phenomenal buy considering the world-class quality. Made from grape blends similar to those of the great red wines of the Southern Rhone such as Chateauneuf du Pape, this flagship wine of a brilliant estate perfectly showcases just how good Languedoc has the potential to be in what was a superb vintage for the region.


With a huge 95-97 points from Dunnuck when he tasted from barrel, the La Peira is clearly of exceptional quality. It is also produced in utterly tiny quantities of just 300 dozen or so, making it one of the rarest wines on the market and a real coup if you manage to get it in the cellar. La Peira is a beautifully made, near impossible to source, wine from one of the top producers in one of the world’s most exciting regions.

Moving to their top cuvee, the 2013 Coteaux du Languedoc Terrasses du Larzac La Peira shows the purity and freshness of the vintage. Tasted out of barrel and a blend of mostly Syrah, with one-third Grenache, it exhibits impressive raspberry, cassis, violets (and assorted floral nuances), exotic spices and licorice to go with a medium to full-bodied, vibrant and decidedly elegant and fresh profile on the palate. As with the other 2013 barrel samples, I expect this to continue to gain weight and richness in barrel.
