The 1995 Cote Rotie La Mouline (11% Viognier included in the blend) was scheduled to be bottled (unfined and unfiltered of course) in February, after 42 months in 100% new oak. This is one of the most extraordinary wines made in the world. As I have said many times, if I were ever stranded on the proverbial desert island with only one wine to drink, it would have to be La Mouline. A compelling perfume of violets, black raspberries, coffee, pepper, and pain grille soars from the glass. Medium to full-bodied and lush, with a terrific multi-layered texture and outstanding purity, this is a phenomenal example of La Mouline. It possesses enough structure and substance to last for two decades, although it will be delicious upon release. Wine Advocate.February, 1999

“A head turner, a Bond girl, Guigal’s interpretation of Cote Rotie is a powerful and intense proposition. This has the core of colour, dark fruit and sweet spices but with real complexity of smoke, game, meat and cigar box. Cashmere textured and drinking beautifully, but still with plenty of life, we would expect nothing less from such a legendary wine. Buy as much as you can find!”

Etienne Guigal, one of the most famous producers in the world, is regarded by Robert Parker as “the axis upon which the northern Rhône rests, a producer whose wines transcend all levels of the hierarchy. He is passionate about making single vineyard expressions using a non-interventionalist, distinctive approach. Best known for his ‘La Las’ (La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque), these “other-wordly” wines are often spoken about in the same breath as the greatest Grand Crus of Bordeaux and Burgundy. However, due to Parker’s main focus being on the 'La Las' some other sensational wines from this magnificent producer slip under the radar. In particular, Guigal’s Lieu-Dit St Joseph offers terrific value. This tiny single vineyard, planted with old vines which range from 20 to 75 years of age, produces a very special wine.
