Average critic rating : 91.5 points
A ripe and complex if brooding nose features notes of dark berry fruit, earth and game along with plenty of spice nuances. There is good power to the concentrated and broad-shouldered flavors that are underpinned by relatively fine tannins on the impressively long finish. This firmly structured and very serious effort is also quite good. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2023+
The 2011 Corton Rognet Grand Cru has a more reticent nose with subtle marine scents emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins on the entry. This is a tertiary Corton with attractive damp earthy and moss accents that inform the composed understated finish. Drink now-2020. ||Taupenot-Merme was my final visit of the week. I have been following these wines for a number of years, even predating my wine writing career. Winemaker Romain Taupenot and his sister Virginie run the domaine in the centre of Morey-Saint-Denis and fashion a classical style of Burgundy wine that I feel has improved in recent years. Their 2011s are well-crafted and are mainly predesigned for early to mid-term consumption. eRobertParker.com.August, 2013
Domaine Taupenot-Merme is based in Morey-St-Denis and has 13 hectares under vine in the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. With a history stretching back to the mid 18th century, the estate really began to come into its own in 1998 when Romain Taupenot joined the domaine full time. The organically cultivated vines, together with low yields and careful sorting practices produce wines that are full of fruit, expressive bouquets, and gentle tannins.
