There is a hint of mandarin orange to the otherwise more classic aromas of white peach, green apple, citrus and wet stone. The well-detailed and intensely stony medium weight plus flavors possess an excellent sense of underlying tension on the saline-infused, dry and well-balanced finish. I like the mid-palate concentration and while this is already delicious, this is sufficiently serious as to require 6 to 8 years of cellar time. Tasted: Jun 15, 2014. Drink: 2017+
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. Bonneau du Martray’s Corton-Charlemagne 2011 has a mineral-driven bouquet – linear and taut, with slate and granite aromas gradually unfurling in the glass. The palate is clean and fresh with supremely well-judged acidity. Touches of apricot and mango lie in the background with the citrus element playing the main role. Beautifully balanced, this is the Corton-Charlemagne of the flight with impressive tension and persistence. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014
For over two centuries Domaine Bonneau du Martray has been family owned. It is situated just on the Corton hill in the heart of the Corton-Charlemagne appellation. It encircles the part of the hill already famous in 14th C and forms the largest holding here. The domain focuses entirely on two Grands Crus, Corton-Charlemagne and Le Corton, a red version of its sister. Old vines from the 11 hectare parcels and meticulous selection leads to small but extremely good quality production. Bonneau du Martray unusually offers older vintages which are ready to drink so you do not need to wait for the wines to peak. This leading white wine estate is run by Jean-Charles de la Morniére. Fermentation goes from stainless steel to casks, about one third new.
