Average critic rating : 90.5 points

A beautifully well-layered nose offers notes of red currant, rose petal, smoked meat and spice nuances. There is a highly seductive texture to the broad-shouldered flavors that possess excellent volume and plenty of mouth coating extract that buffers well the moderately firm tannic spine on the powerful and lingering finish. At present there is very good but not truly elite depth though more will undoubtedly develop. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2024+

The 2012 Clos de la Roche has a perfumed bouquet with rose petals scents joining the fresh strawberry, pomegranate and cranberry aromas. There is an airiness to the aromatics that is quite appealing. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, but overall it is balance and tensile, with good acidity on the sinewy finish. Give this 2 or 3 years in bottle to mellow. Fine. eRobertParker.com.June, 2015

Before Michel Magnien joined the family business in 1946, his father Bernard owned 4 hectares of vines but sold the grapes to the local cooperative. Michel added new vineyards and begun bringing winemaking in-house, but it was only when Bernard’s grandson Frederic arrived that the whole crop was bottled at the domaine.Domaine Michel Magnien now owns 5 hectares of vines with 3 grand crus (Charmes Chambertin, Clos de la Roche and Clos St Denis). The wines are aged in barrel (80% new oak for grand crus, 60% for 1er crus and 30% for the village wines).
