The 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes has a saturated dark ruby/purple color and the tell-tale black raspberry, blueberry, and cassis notes intermixed with black truffle and floral notes. Moderately firm tannins give it a more structured feel than the regular bottling and the wine again shares wonderful purity, texture, and length. This is another beauty that should hit its peak in 2-4 years and last for 15 or more. Robert Parker, Wine Advocate # 169 Feb 2007
One of the wines of the vintage, Marcoux’s 2004 Chateauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is an elegant, ethereal version of this cuvee. More pure and delineated than the classic cuvee, it offers a gorgeous perfume of kirsch liqueur, seaweed wrapper, licorice, ground pepper and garrigue that flows to a medium to full-bodied, pure, elegant and seamless palate. Showing the freshness of the vintage, it is drinking at point, yet will easily continue to evolve for another decade or so. ||The sister duo of Sophie and Catherine Armenier produced some of the most exciting wines in the vintage.
