A blend of 65% Grenache and 35% Mourvedre, the 2006 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee du Quet is big, muscular, and dense with full body as well as meaty black and blue fruits interwoven with notions of new saddle leather, earth, truffles, and spice. Possessing superb length in addition to stunning purity, this excellent 2006 does not require hasty drinking. Give it 3-4 years of bottle age and enjoy it over the following 15+ years. ||One of Chateauneuf du Pape’s outstanding estates, Mas de Boislauzon is in the northern tier of the appellation, and has produced a brilliant succession of vintages over the last decade or more. As always, the differences in these vintages are broadly and dramatically expressed, with the 2007 gloriously fruity, juicy, pure, full-bodied and powerful as well as incredibly fresh. It represents a hypothetical blend of 1990 and 2001, with a dose of 1998 thrown in. 2006 is a vintage for those who love all the spices of the Southern Rhone as the wines tend to possess an earthy, spicy, peppery, garrigue-dominated profile. There is no shortage of fruit or body, but the presentation is completely different than in 2007. Wine Advocate.October, 2008
