2014 Chassagne Mtrach Mixed Cases (Les Chaumees, Les Vergers, Clos St Jean) Au Pied du Mont Chauve

We are excited to offer a parcel of 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Assortment Cases from the outstanding Au Pied du Mont Chauve. An exciting find for us from a vintage of the quality of 2014 and excellent parcels, this comes highly recommended.

FINE+RARE visited Au Pied du Mont Chauve and to say we were impressed is an understatement. We secured as much of the 2011 Premier Crus as we could following our tasting and had overwhelmingly positive feedback from those who snapped up the assortment case we offered.

Having tasted the 2014s, these wines truly are a repeat performance. Produced from vines averaging just over 50 years, the wines show immense concentration and depth, with fewer than 1,000 bottles produced on some of the cuvées. Au Pied du Mont Chauve are experts in Chassagne and the opportunity to own a mixed case from three different vineyards is a compelling proposition.

Neal Martin agrees with us – “check out the wines from Au Pied du Mont Chauve – under-the-radar... the whites offer outstanding quality.” After tasting the wines in this case in October 2015 he describes them as follows for Wine Advocate:

Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers 2014: “The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet Les Vergers has a tightly wound, stony, focused bouquet that opens nicely in the glass… The palate is brisk and citric on the entry with bitter lemon and orange rind notes, but it remains nicely focused and fans out gently towards the finish. This is one of the best wines from Au Pied du Mont Chauve this year.”

Chassagne-Montrachet Clos St. Jean 2014: “The palate is tightly wound, quite citric with a lime and fresh pear finish that gently fans out. Good density and weight here, not the most refined Clos Saint Jean due to some heaviness on the finish, but satisfying.”

Chassagne-Montrachet Les Chaumées 2014: “The 2014 Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru les Chaumées, which sees no new oak, was very closed on the nose with touches of caramelized pear and dried pineapple. The palate is well balanced with a saline entry and is nicely focused.”
