The 2011 Chapelle-Chambertin Grand Cru is from the red soils lieu-dit of Gemeaux that lends his Chapelle more structure. It is clearly adorned with the most complex, perhaps most captivating bouquet of Claude’s three Grand Crus. There is a sense of transparency here, as if you are peering into the vineyard. The minerality is the most expressive with stony aromas blossoming with aeration. The palate is intense right from the start with crisp red currant and cranberry, extremely well-defined with wonderful tension and poise toward the long finish. This is clearly the outstanding 2011 from Dugat and should age beautifully over the next two decades. Drink now-2030. ||Claude Dugat guided me through his 2011s on a blissful July morning, the flowers in such bloom that at one point he questioned whether I was wearing any scent. For the record, I have never worn aftershave in my life. Claude’s wines are deftly made, occasionally lifted by the new oak to the extent where I feel less would be more, but still highly enjoyable., 2013
A completely different nose manifests itself in the form of dark cherry, plum, violets and earth scents. There is excellent richness to the rich, powerful and overtly austere large-scaled flavors that brim with dry extract that helps to buffer the very firm finish. This is first rate though not charming, indeed it's what I would describe as distinctly Cistercian at present. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2023+
