There is excellent depth to the aromatic profile with its wine-ranging spice elements that add nuance to the ripe plum and cassis scents. There is equally excellent richness and plenty of minerality to the precise, intense and energetic flavors that exhibit real drive on the lingering finish that coats the mouth. Good stuff that is built to reward mid-term cellaring. Tasted: Jan 15, 2014. Drink: 2021+
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Veroilles 2011 has a stalky, slightly herbaceous nose, although it seems well defined with scorched earth scents developing in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with slightly chalky tannins. The acidity is racy and cuts through the licorice-tinged black fruit on the lively and tensile finish. This is a very fine Chambolle-Musigny that should drink well for 12 to 15 years. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014
Dating back to 1920’s, Domaine Ghislaine Barthod is a collaboration between wine stalwarts Noellat and Barthod, and still in the family with additional vineyard help from family member Louis Boillot, though this separate premise is run very much as its own business. Chambolle is the appellation where the domain excels, with five 1er cru sites they hold just under 6 hectares of vines of about on average 30 years age. Partial destemming, natural yeast and about 20 months ageing reflect the respect for traditional methods. The last decade as Ghislane (junior) has taken over winemaking has seen a rise in already strong quality and greater recognition for this domain.
