This is notably more deeply colored with a more pronounced floral character to the exceptionally spicy, pure and stony aromas that feature notes of violets, plum and cassis. There is a beguiling sense of freshness to the middle weight flavors that possess an ultra-sophisticated mouth feel as there is a lovely sense of refinement to the fine-grained tannins that are supporting the beautifully complex mineral-driven and well-balanced finish. This should reward well mid to perhaps even longer-term cellaring. Tasted: Jan 14, 2013. Drink: 2021+

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Chambolle-Musigny les Amoureuses from Comte de Vogüé has a quintessential “Amoureuses” bouquet with opulent and generous black cherries and blueberry aromas, distant scents of oak vanillin developing in the glass. This is very floral and perfumed. The palate is medium-bodied with very lithe and supple tannins. The acidity is well judged and it is blessed with a very satin-like, harmonious finish that demonstrates great persistence. This does not quite match up to the example I tasted last year, but I suspect that it will begin to blossom in 2-3 years. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014

Deep, bright red. Subtle, pure nose offers black raspberry, black cherry, mint, menthol and a hint of citrus skin. Wonderfully silky and sweet but the black fruit flavors come off more savory than sugary owing to the wine's strong limestone character. Finishes sappy, uncompromisingly dry and very long, with firm tannins and lovely mineral and floral lift. Jan 2013, www.vinous.com

Chambolle-Musigny has no shortage of stars though Domaine Comte Georges de Vogue is certainly the most aristocratic estate in the village, and the estate with the grandest holdings: de Vogue holds a whopping seven hectares of Musigny – almost three-quarters of the vineyard.

The domaine can trace its origins back to the 15th Century: that it is still intact is remarkable in itself, though its fame as a top producer came about after the Second World War, and it now sits comfortably at the top table of Burgundy’s great estates.

Le Musigny is obviously the jewel of the estate’s holdings: a parcel of the vineyard is planted to Chardonnay which, in theory, will one day be labelled as Musigny Blanc. For the moment the wine is declassified to Bourgogne Blanc on account of the youth of the vines; anyone lucky enough to have tasted this rarity will attest to its remarkable quality.

Other holdings include a significant parcel – 2.7 hectares – of Bonne Mares and just over half a hectare of Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureueses (a vineyard of grand cru quality if not status).
