A very fresh, cool and airy nose of primarily red currant and stone introduces detailed and mineral-inflected medium-bodied flavors that possess refined tannins, all wrapped in a dusty, balanced and long finish. There is outstanding complexity and the 1ers in the blend contribute materially to the overall sophistication. Jan 2012, www.burghound.com, Drink: 2018+
The 2010 Chambolle-Musigny is fantastic. It boasts incredible aromatic complexity, gorgeous textural finesse and seemingly endless layers of fruit. Suave yet firm tannins support the fruit through to the highly attractive, delineated finish. This is a great way to start a survey of the domaine’s 2010s. Anticipated maturity: 2016-2025. ||Long-time oenologist Francois Millet was away during my visit to Burgundy, so I can’t relay his always visually evocative thoughts on recent vintages. At the end of the day, though, these wines need no words; they speak for themselves, and then some. Commercial director Jean-Luc Pepin was kind enough to show me all of the 2010s and 2009s (from bottle), including the seldom seen Bourgogne Blanc. I will report on the 2009s in the April issue.||A Becky Wasserman Selection, Le Serbet, various American importers, including: Atlanta Wholesale Wines, Atlanta, GA; tel. Deep, bright red. Sexy aromas of ripe red fruits and flowers accented by white pepper and wild herbs. Rich but taut, even a bit youthfully imploded, with strong mineral energy giving definition to the very pure fruit and floral flavors. Suave but serious village wine with excellent balance.Jan 2012, www.vinous.com
