2008 Chambertin Clos de Beze Pierre Damoy

Pierre Damoy’s 95 point Chambertin Clos de Beze 2008 is a beautifully made and delicious Grand Cru Burgundy from one of the most respected and well-regarded growers in the region.

Affectionately known as ‘Mr Chambertin’ thanks to his extensive holdings in the Grand Crus of Clos de Beze and Chapelle Chambertin (the domaine owns approximately half of each vineyard), Pierre Damoy has turned this once ailing estate back into one which rightly grabs the attention of all collectors.

He is able to vinify in small batches and therefore to perfectly react to and capture the best aspects of each vintage. This explains both his consistent excellence and how he could craft such a successful wine in 2008. With 95 points from Galloni this is very much in the top tier of what was achieved in this Grand Cru vineyard in 2008 and yet remains very fairly priced against the only two that out-pointed it on Wine Advocate

The 2008 Chambertin-Clos de Beze is subtle and understated in this vintage. Endless layers of perfumed fruit emerge from this gracious, refined Burgundy. This opens up beautifully in the glass; I can hardly wait to see how it does with another few years in bottle. In 2008 I have a slight preference for the straight Beze over the Reserve, although admittedly that is splitting hairs at this rarified level. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029.
