2012 Chablis Mont de Milieu Billaud Simon

Punching well above its price-point, the 2012 Chablis Mont de Milieu 1er Cru from Billaud-Simon is a perfect white for the summer months.

Beautifully made, complex and delicious, Billaud-Simon’s wines offer an excellent alternative to white Burgundy at seriously good prices. This pedigree coupled with the quality of Mont de Milieu, a vineyard responsible for some of Chablis’ best 1er Cru wines, makes for an exciting combination.

Allen Meadows called the 2012 “excellent” and, having just sampled it, we have to agree. It bears all the purity and finesse that are the hallmarks of Chablis. Perfect for early drinking, it is one to snap up now and enjoy over the coming months and indeed years if you wish.

"Here the nose is less expressive but also carries a trace of exotic fruit character on the spicy dried yellow fruit suffused nose. The supple broad-shouldered flavors retain a reasonably good sense of detail before culminating in a superbly long, dry and complex finish that delivers outstanding intensity. This is excellent and very Mont de Milieu" (Oct 2014) www.burghound.com

"The 2012 Chablis Mont de Milieu is another wine that is quite intense and inward, with less of its characteristic early appeal on display. Bright citrus and mineral notes abound in a tightly-wound Chablis that needs bottle age." (Aug 2014) www.vinous.com Drink 2015+

"Pale yellow. Subtle, pure aromas of white peach and white pepper. Sappy and brisk, offering lovely intensity to its nectarine and saline mineral flavors. Very rich wine with an exotic spice element carrying through from entry to chewy, powerful finish. Good acid cut keeps this wine lively and firm on the back end. The crop level here was less than 40 hectoliters per hectare, according to winemaker Julien Martin." (Jul 2014) www.vinous.com

Intense nose with lovely layers of citrus and stone fruit, fused with flinty, mineral notes. Rich toast and nuts on the palate. Full-bodied with good acidity that cuts right through the richness to give a long finish. (Apr 2016)
