Extremely soft, up-front, classic Pessac-Leognan, the 2010 Carbonnieux possesses plenty of unsmoked cigar tobacco, roasted herbs, lavender, sweet kirsch and black currant fruit and sweet tannin. Seductive, lush and sensual, it is rather Burgundian in its elegant, savory, evolved style. Drink it over the next 15-20 years. Wine Advocate.February, 2013

There is a touch of sur-maturite on the nose although the delineation is commendable and it seems to mellow in the glass, that over-ripeness diminishing. The palate is full-bodied and dominated by the tannins that seem to be fully ripe, whilst the finish demonstrates good delineation and persistency. This has very good potential. Tasted April 2011. I like the blueberry, menthol and mineral character, with full body, and silky, refined tannins. Tiny bit short. jamessuckling.com

Very pure, with a lovely, supple feel to the structure and long, unadorned red currant, raspberry and cherry fruit that sails along. Shows flickers of warm stone and spice on the finish. James Molseworth, winespectator.com

Very dark indeed. Well-integrated nose with some juicy fruit suggestion. Silky sweet start and then very marked tannins. Dry to drying finish. A tiny bit severe on the finish for now. Demands time. jancisrobinson.com

Good depth of ripe cassis fruit, tobacco leaf nose, good length, needs to settle down. Drink 2014-20. Steven Spurrier, decanter.com

The deep ruby purple 2010 Carbonnieux has a vibrant, attractive nose of violets, plums, cassis, cedar and blackberries, supported by rich, very ripe but densely packed tannins that are so massive that they hide the wine's flavours. This wine has good potential but the heavily-extracted tannins mean it will require at least 6-8 years to come around. asianpalate.com
