The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino is striking. Sweet red cherries, flowers, tobacco, cedar and worn-in leather are some of the many aromas and flavors that take shape in the glass. The 2007 impresses for its textural depth and volume, both of which have been achieved while retaining considerable Sangiovese character. Ripe, silky tannins lurk beneath the fruit, but there is so much concentration they are hard to notice. The estate gave the Brunello 30 months in cask. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2027. ||I was deeply impressed with the two Brunelli I tasted from Le Chiuse di Sotto. Sadly, proprietor Gianni Brunelli passed away in late 2008, but he left behind a rich legacy, including these two captivating wines. Wine Advocate.April, 2012

Based on at the base of the northern slope of the Montalcino hill, Le Chiuse has an intriguing history in that the vineyards were once part of the Biondi Santi estate and were the source of Biondi Santi riservas. The current owner, Simonetta Valiani, is the great granddaughter of Feruccio Biondi Santi, and until 1993 the vines were rented to Biondi Santi .

The vineyards have an ideal exposure and are clearly very well looked after: there is a tangible passion for the vines here. The elevage is traditional and the end result is classic Brunello, which appears to excel in cooler, rather than hotter, vintages. There is much going on here in terms of investment and this is an estate to watch.
