The 2010 Bonnes-Mares is at once powerful yet sensual and totally enveloping. Layers of fruit resonate from this deep, baritone Bonnes-Mares. All of the elements continue to build towards the huge, explosive finish. The Bonnes-Mares is a wine with a bright future, but it will require considerable patience along the way. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. ||This is stunning set of wines from Pierre Vincent and Domaine de la Vougeraie. It is impossible to miss the attention to detail at this impeccably run domaine. No expense is spared. It takes 80 people to work the vineyards during harvest and another 20 in the cellar to take it from there. Production in 2010 was of course down significantly as it was everywhere else. Yields came in at 24 hectoliters per hectare for the Pinot and 29 for the Chardonnay. Vincent used between 30-80% whole bunches, depending on the wine. Readers who want to learn more might want to check out my video interview with Pierre Vincent on I will report on the domaine’s 2009s in the April issue. For now let me just say the 2009 Musigny is one of the wines of the vintage. Wine Advocate.February, 2012

Domainede la Vougeraie was created in 1999 when Jean-Claude Boisset decided to collate all of his vineyard holdings from his various negociant companies under one name. The name is inspired by Boisset’s significant holdings in the village of Vougeot and the domaine itself covers over 25 hectares of vineyards more than 20 different appellations. With six grand crus (Musigny,BonnesMares, Closde Vougeot, Charmes-ChambertinLes Mazoyères, CortonClos du Roi and Corton Charlemagne En Charlemagne), Domaine de la Vougeraie is one of Burgundy’s leading domaines. The premier and grand cru vineyards are all farmed biodynamically and yields are carefully restricted. Winemaker Pierre Vincent favours a delicate approach: hand sorting, cool maceration and the grapes are only punched down once a day. This results in elegant, complex wines which are of consistently high quality.
