A Stéphane Derenoncourt wine. Putty and interest on the nose. Sweet and a tad simple. Lots of dryness on the finish. Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2022-2032
The 2015 Belle Coline, a blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Malbec, has a fragrant bouquet of red cherries, raspberry jam and a touch of baking powder, nicely defined and pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit with good grip thanks to that judicious use of Malbec. This should drink nicely over the next 4-5 years. Apr 2016, www.eRobertParker.com, Drink: 2018-2023
The 2015 Belle Coline is another gorgeous Côtes de Blaye. Black cherry, menthol, licorice, plum, tobacco and spice flesh out in an inviting yet serious, structured wine bursting with personality. Hints of lavender, plum, spice and menthol wrap around the juicy finish. There is plenty to like here. The blend is 90% Merlot and 10% Malbec, with little perceptible influence from the Malbec. Julien Lavenu and Romain Bocchio are the consulting winemakers. Tasted two times. Apr 2016, www.Vinous.com
