Herbal notes on an intense nose. Mouth-filling. Very juicy. Not a long laster but a very good effort. Dry finish. Apr 2016, www.JancisRobinson.com, Drink: 2019-2025
The 2015 Bel-Air la Royere has an attractive, blackberry and blueberry bouquet, showing quite a bit of oak at the moment but not enough to obscure the fruit underneath. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, good depth of fruit with plenty of lightly spiced blackberry and bilberry. My only quibble is that is loses some of its definition towards the finish, but otherwise, this is a fine, stocky Côtes de Blaye that will repay 2-3 years in bottle.
