Somewhat unusually, this is more aromatically complex than the Lavières with its pretty nose of various red berries and floral hints trimmed in discreet earth nuances. There is a lovely mouth feel to the silky-textured middle weight flavors that are shaped by admirably refined tannins. In contrast to the supple mid-palate the finish tightens up quickly and this impression is heightened by the presence of enough gas to notice so I would recommend decanting it here as well if you're tempted to try one young. Tasted: Apr 15, 2013. Drink: 2017+

Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Beaune 1er Cru Clos du Roi 2011 is endowed with a nose that welcomes you with open arms: fresh strawberry, Morello and a touch of fruit salad. There is plenty of oak, though it is nicely assimilated, well defined and precise. The palate is crisp and pointed with a silver thread of acidity, fine tension and a nice bitter edge that shaves off a little persistence, but beckons you to take another sip. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014

Since taking full control of the family estate, Domaine Jean Boillot, in 2005, winemaker Henri Boillot has become renowned for the sheer quality of his wines, made using vines which are more than 60 years old. He renamed the estate Domaine Henri Boillot soon after taking it over to eliminate confusion with his brother’s estate, Domaine Jean-Marc Boillot.Boillot’s negociant arm, Maison Henri Boillot, is a benchmark producer of French estate wines which are outstanding examples of some of the Cote d-Or's most prestigious crus. From village-style Meursaults to Le Montrachet, Boillot’s wines have an intense minerality and are structured, linear and ageworthy. Although Henri does not own the vineyards from which his grapes are sourced, he farms them as meticulously as his own and uses the same methods to make the wines.
