Boillot's 2011 Bâtard-Montrachet is striking. Pear, almond and spice notes open up in the glass, leading to bright fruit and expressive floral notes. In 2011 the Bâtard is linear, powerful and intense. This statuesque Burgundy is best left alone for at least several years. Sep 2013, www.vinous.com, Drink: 2016+
There is just enough reduction present to suppress the nose though it seems reasonably clear that it is both ripe and clean. There is superb size, weight and mid-palate density to the mouth coating big-bodied flavors that ooze dry extract that does a fine job of buffering the firm acid spine on the very dry, even saline-infused finish. While I would call this a wine of finesse in the same vein as the Bienvenues, it is relatively fine in the context of the appellation. Either way, this delivers outstanding quality though be aware that it's going to need plenty of cellar time. Tasted: Jun 11, 2013. Drink: 2021+
Complex, inviting nose melds stone fruits, very ripe pear, clove, musky lees and a hint of faded rose. Wonderfully sweet and tactile, displaying lovely energy but no hardness to the fine-grained flavors of stone fruits and spices. Shows real punch for the vintage but needs time in bottle to develop more complexity. I'm not convinced that this wine will surpass the Truffiere in the long run. 94+? Sep 2013, www.vinous.com
Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The Bâtard-Montrachet 2011 from Henri Boillot was the one disappointment from what was otherwise a strong set of wines from this vintage. It does not have the complexity of Olivier Leflaive’s Bâtard with light citrus and orange-blossom aromas that seem a little static. The palate has a reductive note on the entry. The acidity is nicely judged, but there is too much SO2 masking the finish. eRobertParker.com.November, 2014
